Over one hundred and eighty poems from some forty women poets are collected together in this new anthology edited and annotated for a student audience. The only other paperback anthology of women romantic poets currently available is that by jennifer breen women romantic poets 1785 1832 london dent 1992 which presents only 87 poems from 26 poets. Almost two thirds of the folger collective anthology is devoted to the age of romanticism and much of it reminds us that for many women this was an age made conspicuous by its explosion in fiction not poetry. Although long overshadowed by their male contemporaries the women romantic poets of the 18th and 19th centuries made a lasting contribution to romanticism. Also available now is andrew ashfields romantic women poets which covers the period 1770 1838 he presents excerpts from 34 women 181 she notes that editions of collected works by romantic women poets is scarce
